Windows 10 Search Bar not Working

It’s pretty annoying when Search Bar on Windows 10 Doesn’t respond. Well, this happens sometimes but when it happens it becomes frustrating. In my opinion, the main cause of this problem is Windows Update. I won’t say Windows Update itself is a problem, rather I’d like to say that Some Updates on Windows 10 might contain errors. Those errors are responsible for such happenings.

I also have faced this problem a lot while using Windows 10. I’ve always used some steps to check as a Troubleshooting option on Contrary to Permanent fix. After all these years, I can say that there is no permanent fix for this problem. However, we can use some steps to make sure that, we don’t have a fault at our end.

As we are talking about the Search Bar Problem which is mostly related to Update. The Search bar will begin to work after an Update for sure if these steps doesn’t seems to work. But don’t be hopeless, give these steps a try and let’s fix this problem.

Steps to Fix Windows 10 Search Bar Not Working

I’ll try to make these steps as simple as possible. So that, there won’t be any unnecessary errors and faults.

Let’s begin by Restarting Search App:

  • Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc at once to open the task manager. (Or Right Click on Start Button & Select Task Manager)
  • Find the “Search” App from the taskbar and Right Click on it.
  • Select End Task option. ( It’ll Re-Open itself, Don’t worry )

Now, our first step is completed. Try Using Search Bar, whether it is fixed or not. If it is fixed, you don’t need to Follow other steps. If it isn’t fixed, let’s move to another step.

Now Let’s Restart Windows Explorer:

This process is similar to the above process with just a slight difference. Let’s initiate the second step:

  • Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc at once to open the task manager. (Or Right Click on Start Button & Select Task Manager)
  • Find the “Windows Explorer” App from the taskbar and Right Click on it.
  • Select End Task option. ( It’ll Re-Open itself, Don’t worry )

Now, the Second Attempt to fix the Windows Search Bar is completed. Try to use the Search bar on your Windows 10 to verify it’s working or not. If not, then let’s move to another Step.

Now Let’s Run Indexer Troubleshooter:

An Indexer Troubleshooter is a feature available on Windows 10. It doesn’t require any special skills or knowledge. It’s just a troubleshooter which is a new feature provided by Windows 10 for the convenience of its users. There are lots of ways to access the Indexer Troubleshooter on Windows 10. But I’m going to show you the easy and the best of all.

  • Go to Start.
  • Click on Settings from Left Bar.

  • Now Click on Update & Security.
  • Go to Troubleshooter.
  • Now Click Advanced Troubleshooters.
  • Navigate & Click on Search & Indexing.

  • Finally, Click on Run The Troubleshooter.

Now, the Troubleshooter begins its job. Wait until the troubleshooting completes. If it detects any problem after troubleshooting, Windows 10 will automatically solve those problems. Otherwise, confirm whether the Search Bar is working or not.

Even after all these steps, your search bar is not working. Then you’ve to wait for another Windows 10 Update to Roll-out. It’ll fix your problem for Sure.

Recently, I’ve faced the exact problem with my Windows 10 Laptop. The above steps used to work before, but this time it didn’t work at all. So, I was left will only one option. And the option was to wait until the next update. As soon as the update was completed, I checked the Search Bar. And as expected it worked.
