Two Discoveries of the Audi’s Concept Cars e-tron Evolution

Two show cars deliver an attractive taste of the future of e-mobility at Audi. The e-tron Sportback concept and the e-tron quattro concept. They exhibit the endless development process – from vision, to initial miniature model, to show car.

One vision, many creative approaches: By the means of internal bidding process Audi picks a show car design team. The design team headed by Philip Römers succesfully carved their vision for the Audi e-tron Sportback concept. While Gary Telaak’s team were awarded the task of designing th Audi e-tron quattro concept. The path leading to the completion of show car is also an endless process. The process usually starts with a sketch on a paper composed through mind, which is then processed by computers and developed into a 3 Dimensional (3D) model, before the admirable & precise work begins. The real beginning is to design the sketch into a logical model. There are still lots of technical requirements that is to be observed.

At the IAA in Frankfurt the Audi e-tron evolution was vented in 2015. This show car offers a strong and undeniable taste of the futyure of all luxury electric and semi electric SUV’s. “Aerodynamics is an important factor when it comes to range. You need to reach certain values in order to unlock the maximum potential. To achieve this target, Gary Telaak’s team tested a 1:4 model in a wind tunnel at the beginning phase of development, while the initial work on the vehicle’s architecture was still being conducted. It’s about creating a design that is not just aesthetically appealing, but also efficient.

The mighty quattro drive also plays a critical role. 3 electric motors, one for the front axle and two for the rear, provide all the power needed. The  power output in total is 320 kW, and increases up to 370 kW for limited periods. With a torque of over 800 Nm, quattro sprints from 0-100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds to reach 210 km/h.

The Audi e-tron Sportback was released at Spring Trade Fair Auto Shanghai. The four-door gran turismo represents another critical step towards e-mobility and offers a glimpse of what the production car might look like. The aesthetics combine classic Audi elements with a host of cutting-edge details. It’s architecture is tailored to the electric drive technology. The dynamic digital light design sets new benchmarks.

Like the e-tron quattro concept, it pairs sporty driving – acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds at a power output of up to 320 kW (boostable up to 370 kW). With exceptional comfort and a range of up to 500 km. Perfect for everyday driving – and much more besides. The quattro torque control efficiently converts the electric motor’s enormous torque and transmits it to the road for an exhilarating driving experience. This recuperation function makes the Audi e-tron Sportback concept even more efficient.
